Delete your TVmail account and data
Developer: CLAPPS · Apps: TVmail and TVmail Pro (Android TV)
This page explains how to delete the data that TVmail (not.a.bug.tvmail) and TVmail Pro (clapps.be.tvmail) store about you. Both apps use the same servers, so one deletion covers both.
What TVmail stores
- On our servers: your Gmail address and the push-notification token of your TV, used to tell the TV when a new email arrives.
- Only if you signed in with the older "Sign in with Google" button (2023–2025): a Firebase Authentication record with your email address, name, profile photo link and Google account ID.
- During sign-in only: your Google sign-in tokens, held in a temporary document that the TV deletes as soon as it has read them. A document the TV never collects expires after 10 minutes and is then deleted automatically.
- On your TV: your sign-in tokens, cached emails, attachments you opened, images, and TVmail rows on the home screen. Your emails are fetched directly from Gmail by the TV and are never stored on our servers.
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics). They do not contain your email address or the content of your emails.
- Free TVmail app only: subscription records at RevenueCat and Google Play, linked to an anonymous ID, not to your Gmail address.
- Since version 1.7 (both apps): an account status record on our servers, keyed by your Gmail address: the date TVmail first saw the address, whether it used TVmail before version 1.7, and either the dates of the free app's 7-day Premium trial (accounts started with version 1.7.0) or the fact that the account started without an in-app trial (version 1.7.1 and later). It is created when our server handles a request for your address (new-mail alert registration, a Gmail new-mail signal, sign-out, account deletion or a free-app status check), whichever TVmail app you use, and is used only by the free app to decide which features are free for you.
Option 1 – Delete from the app (recommended)
- Open TVmail or TVmail Pro on your TV while you are signed in.
- Go to the Settings tab at the top of the screen (French: Paramètres, Spanish: Configuraciones).
- Scroll down and select Delete account & data (French: Supprimer le compte et les données, Spanish: Eliminar cuenta y datos).
- Read the confirmation and select Delete. (The dialog opens on Cancel.)
This deletes, immediately:
- your Gmail address, push-notification token and account status from our servers, and Gmail stops sending new-mail signals for your address;
- your legacy Firebase Authentication record, if you have one;
- TVmail's access to your Google account, which is revoked at Google. TVmail and TVmail Pro share the same Google sign-in, so both apps lose access on every TV where you use that Google account;
- everything TVmail stored on this TV: sign-in tokens, cached emails, attachments, images (including the email viewer's web cache), home-screen rows, label choices and the cached Premium status. You are then signed out.
Your Gmail mailbox itself is not changed. If the app cannot reach your Google account (for example because you already removed TVmail's access at Google), it still erases the data on the TV and signs you out, and then tells you to use Option 2 to delete the data on our servers. If there is no network connection, or Google does not confirm that TVmail's access was revoked, the app keeps you signed in, shows an error and you can try again; it only reports the deletion as complete once access is revoked.
Option 2 – Request deletion by email
If you no longer have the TV, or the app could not finish the deletion, send an email to ralf@clapps.be:
- send it from the Gmail address you used in TVmail, so we can check that the request comes from you (if you cannot, we will ask you to confirm from that address);
- use the subject
TVmail account deletion.
We delete your Gmail address, your push-notification token, your account status and any legacy Firebase Authentication record within 30 days, then confirm by email. We cannot revoke Google access on your behalf by email, so please also follow the next step.
Revoke TVmail's access to your Google account
You can remove TVmail's access to your Gmail at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. TVmail can no longer read your mailbox after that. Revoking access alone does not delete the data on our servers, so use Option 1 or Option 2 for that.
What is kept, and for how long
- Server account data: none. Your address, push token, account status and legacy authentication record are deleted, not archived. Because the account status is deleted too, if you sign in to the free TVmail app again later, our server no longer knows that you used TVmail before version 1.7 and treats your Gmail address as a new account (the free features of new accounts), except on a TV that already had TVmail installed before version 1.7, which keeps the original free features.
- Server logs: since the 1.6.0 server update, TVmail's server logs do not contain email addresses. Logs are kept for Google Cloud's standard 30 days, so older log lines that contained your address expire within 30 days of that update.
- Crash reports: kept by Firebase Crashlytics for 90 days, then deleted. They are not linked to your email address.
- Purchase records (free TVmail app): kept by Google Play and RevenueCat as needed for billing, refunds and tax obligations. Deleting your TVmail account does not cancel or remove a Premium purchase: it belongs to your Google Play account and can be restored with "Restore purchase". To stop a subscription, cancel it in Google Play.
- Other TVs: after an in-app deletion, any other TV with TVmail 1.6.0 or later that uses the same Google account signs out and erases its local data the next time it tries to sync. With older versions, sign out or uninstall the app on that TV.
Subscriptions (free TVmail app)
Deleting your account does not cancel a TVmail Premium subscription. To stop billing, cancel it in Google Play under Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. TVmail Pro is a one-time purchase and has no subscription.
